Sociedad vs Lyon

 First leg between Sociedad and Lyon was a very open game, with both sides having their opportunities, but the Spanish side was much more effective a week ago and with two goals, from Griezmann in 17th and Seferovic in 50th minute, the team will have much easier job in the second leg now. Furthermore, Lyon tried to react after those two goals conceded, but with a exclusion of Bisevac in 75th minute things went more complicated for the French side.

Real Sociedad now has a historic chance to return to the Champions League group stage after eleven years and for sure that the team is very close of doing so after a surprising 2:o victory in France. Although they would probably be happy even with a narrow defeat, nobody in the club says that they think that way and will try to search for another victory.
In the first leg, team of coach Arrasate was excellent, who said that the team will not start the game having in mind the outcome of the first leg. On contrary, he wants his players to show aggressive play once again, as defensive style doesn’t fit to the philosophy of the team. He also wants to repeat the same squad from the previous leg, but will not be able to do so as right back Carlos Martinez was injured in the first match. Dani Estrada should replace him and will probably be the only change, as midfielder Griezmann doesn’t feel discomfort in his shoulder anymore and will play next to striker Seferovic. Constantly absent remain striker Ifran and Agirretxe who aren’t still ready for the new season.

Lyon is coming from a 0:1 defeat against Reims last weekend at home. Things are obviously not going into the right direction early in the season for them, as the team currently stands with two victories and a loss in the domestic league, while they are very close of being excluded from the Champions League this time.
Against Reims, most of the players were obviously in a game against Sociedad in their heads, as the team didn’t play good football at all, but even so, were at least slightly better than their opponents, while they had the biggest chances in a penalty shot in 71st minute which was missed by Grenier. Five minutes later the guests scored a winning goal, while Lyon had no much time to replay. Coach Garde is insisting now on his players to give out everything they can in order to get the qualification, although admitting that Sociedad has a clear lead, but saying that this mustn’t impact on their own effort tonight. Pressure is great on the French side, while the atmosphere isn’t best possible at all, while the team is near to be excluded from the Champions League for the second consecutive season. Strikers Gomis and Briand, as well as goalkeeper Vercoutre, midfielders Ghezzal and Dabo are long term outside the roster, while left midfielder Danic is fresh injured. Finally, central defender Bisevac is suspended following red card earned in the first leg.
