Spain Segunda
Barcelona B - Deportivo la Coruna
In spite of being better placed in the Spanish second division table, Barca B has the same problem than Real Madrid Castilla: they also lost 3 very important players from last season (Deulofeu, Rafinha and Luis Alberto) and they didn’t sign any proper replacement. If we take also in consideration the fact that they had several important players injured throughout the first weeks of the season it explains their poor record so far: 3-1-4 with 8-10 as goal record. They have managed to win the first 3 homes matches only loosing last one to Mallorca (0-1).
For this match they are severely depleted: Sergi Gomez, Doungou, Ca, Ie, Grimaldo, Campins and Juste are all injured while Babunski, Bagnack and Sanabria are tied up in international duty. For this reason coach Eusebio was forced to call a few players from the youth squad to complete a list of only 17 names.
Deportivo had their share of problems too. After experiencing severe budget limitations which led to the loss of several important players they are slowly rebuilding their squad. Coach Vazquez vouched for creating a very consistent defensive line in order to keep a clean sheet (5 in 8 games) while trying to survive on counters.
They have mastered this style of play which explains their huge success in away matches where they aren’t forced to take initiative (3-0-1). They have the best defence of the league (only 4 goals conceded) but at the same time one of the worst attacks (only 7 goals scored after 8 games). Even though they sustained a mini-revolution in their ranks we can still find, among Depor squad, a mix of experience and talent that could led them to improve their table-position in the upcoming weeks. They miss CB Insua which was called up for Spanish U21 squad so Kaka should fill in for him. FW Arizmendi returns from injury and he should start from the beginning.
I think that the missing players of Barca B would hurt too much their performance especially in the centre of the defence where they will be forced to field an awkward couple of CB’s formed by Ilie (former DM) and Planas (full-back). Depor should really take advantage of that.
